Barbara Martin works primarily in oil; she also enjoys the freedoms of pastel over watercolor and Prisma pencils. Not only is she skilled at executing traditional scenes, she has also created and developed a unique style.
While in high school, Barbara recieved private oil painting instuction and completed an oil painting Vo-Tech course at night. She completed her Associates of Art Degree in 1986 and obtained a Master's Degree in Sociology from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1991. Since then, Barbara has been influenced by Fantasy Art, Russian Folk Art, and Medieval Wood Cuts.
Barbara's inspiration is drawn from the flora and fauna of her journeys, as well as the hard work, dedication, and creative vision of modern bladesmiths.
As a student of human and social conditions, Barbara is able to view the subjects of her art from a variety of perspectives. She chooses subjects that are archetypal and speak to everyone by utilizing color, style and technique to stimulate their emotions. "Art should be visually enticing and vibrant."
Barbara has been represented by the Bricktown Art Gallery in Oklahoma City, OK., The Artful Indulgence in Okmulgee, OK. She has participated in selected juried shows and won several awards. Her paintings are in private collections in Oklahoma, Texas, and California.
